MY MISGUIDING ANGEL

Rewind back to 1993. I had read about 70s hard rock band Angel (you might remember them as those guys all dressed in white) and I got kinda obsessed.

I really wanted to hear them, but their records were impossible to find in pre-internet days. I tried to order one at my local record store but it never came in, of course.

Then, about one year later, I found Angel’s self-titled debut album in the cut-out section of my favorite mailorder for a ridiculously cheap price. I waited for that package so impatiently… I still remember I got it in June, during the USA 94 soccer world cup.

I finally opened it and there it was. Angel’s self-titled album. But it wasn’t Angel “the band”. It was Angel… “the guy”. I had no idea but, apparently, there was a solo artist called Angel. Angel Ferreira, a former dancer and backup vocalist for Madonna who went solo and released a self-titled cd as “Angel”. Now, imagine my face at that moment.

The music wasn’t even so bad: that mix of dance, hip hop, and latin pop known as freestyle back then. Nevertheless, I was fuming. I sold that cd eventually and, over the years, I could find the whole Angel (the band) discography, but…

The first song on that “Angel the guy” cd was so catchy. It stayed in my head all these years and I found myself playing it quite often on youtube. Long story short, a couple of weeks ago I went on Discogs, I bought that cd again, and I also bought the single of that song. I’ve been cutting the rug in my room since they were delivered.
