WORST BOB DYLAN SONG EVER?

So, a legend, a girl singer, and a British actor walk into a movie set… If it sounds like I’m starting a joke, well, this is definitely a joke, but I promise I’m not the one who started it.

The girl singer is Fiona, once married to hair metal producer Beau Hill. She has a very good voice and a string of decent aor albums under her belt. The British actor is Rupert Everett and he doesn’t need much introduction. No introduction is needed for the legend either, as it’s none other than Bob Dylan.

The joke that brought these three characters together is a movie called ‘Hearts Of Fire’ (directed by the late Richard Marquand, who you might remember from ‘Return Of The Jedi’). If you have never heard about this, it’s because they all tried to bury it deeper where nobody can find it. And rightly so, as it wasn’t exactly remarkable.

There’s this up-and-coming singer (Fiona) whose heart is divided between her mature mentor (Bob) and a younger rockstar on the rise (Rupert), and it doesn’t get much better from there. As subpar as it is, the movie is still more bearable than its companion soundtrack album.

A super slick production handled by Beau Hill, with the three main characters alternating on the mic, backed by a parade of familiar names like Eric Clapton, Ron Wood (on bass!), and Winger’s guitarist/Hill’s protégé Reb Beach.

It works fairly well with Fiona’s songs, as she’s exactly in her comfort zone, but other than that… Well, Rupert Everett proves to have an adequate singing voice, but the musical arrangement of his ‘Tainted Love’ remake is cringeworthy, to say the least.

And if you think it can’t get any worse, think again. This soundtrack includes what’s probably the worst song I’ve ever heard from good old Bob Dylan. It’s called ‘Night After Night’ and, mark my words, it’s cheesier than nachos. Maybe that’s exactly the reason why this whole thing has a perverse fascination…
